Description

:new: Grammar edit: thanks to Not--Anonymous I could make one part more understandable :) (it's about how Armaldo has to deal with predators)
- - -
UGH, once this Pokemon got into my head especially when I started creating an OC Armaldo, I couldn't get it off my head
-that's why I decided to end this struggle, sit and do reference sketches.

No OC Arianna reference sheet yet, because with Swift Swim and no Battle armor she's supposed to have some scratches
on her armor from past battles, I haven't decided yet where and how do they look.
Trivia.

If you're the one who enjoys my OCs, so far you can get to know her from this beta in artwork side WIP:

Now onto my view on that Pokemon

I know Armaldo looks so much like a mix between an invertebrate and dinosaur, like a Scyther, but because Anomalocarids
and Ediacaran fauna in general were really weird, mysterious and all haven't left close relativies till today AND the whole Anomalocaris
relativies belong to class DINOcaridia, I decided to not go with hybrid like I do with Scyther, but try harder and make it truly
weird extinct living being, even if fictional :D

references and inspirations:

-class Dinocaridida; it's a true name for a group to which Anomalocaris and its cousins belong. since it contains "dino" in it,
I set it as the cause of mistaking Armaldo with dinosaurs, while this word means "scary" in greek.

-mantis shrimp, the non-smashing one, called spearer mantis shrimp. Let me say, convergent evolution. Also, mantis shrimps
are said to be living fossils, unchanged since milion years, while it's not quite true; mantis shrimp from over 200 mya were
different from modern ones.
The idea comes from Pokedex mentioning Armaldo has "retractable claws"

- for characteristic lobes behind the head I went with Amplectobelua, anomalocarid from Chengijan instead of well known
Anomalocaris from Burgess shale.

-Schinderhannes bartelsi, anomalocarid species were another inspiration for this Armaldo, exactly for the lower half of the body

- for the eyes, I went with some unusual Trilobite species, being inspired mostly by Erbenochile with its bizzare eyes
tht even got eyeshade. Trylobite lenses are made from calcite. (however it's not shown here I'm sorry)

*judging from apperance and the fact I see a bit of a mantis shrimp in Armaldo, I think after it evolves, to not compete with own kind
(same as caterpillar and butterfly/moth or larvae of beetle), after Anorith evolves, it hunts from its hiding, waiting on the
seafloor for prey to come by, same as spearing mantis shrimp, unlike Anorith which swims in the open ocean.
Their eyes act like whose of crocodile of hippo, being positioned on top of the head while the rest of the body is hidden in the sand.
Very similar feathure is present in Drapion species.

Unfortunately no dorsal view, because I just can't do that at the moment :iconemmplz:
