Description

Why the heck I'm even wasting my life on something that's not focused on artwork so only miniority of Homo Sapiens
will ever LOOK at it or even worse- when I shall just draw realistic Pokemon why I must think about it in realistic side which slows me down horribly WHY WHYYY :iconjustwhyplz:

I made over 15 sketches of Dragonite's wing to not make them typical european bat-like wings, because I really wanted to avoid that even if they're
so similar in original Pokemon. We all know aerodynamic mechanics which apply for bat wings wouldn't work for Dragonite...I also thought about making them LOOK similar to flying frog which can glide, but after I've read about insect's flying possible mechanics, I ended with making them something EVEN more specific.
----------------------------------------------------------
PARDON I SUBMITTED UNFINISHED THING- I DON'T KNOW WHEN I'LL COME BACK AND FINISH THIS: MIGHT TOMORROW, MIGHT THIS WEEK,
MAYBE NOT EVEN IN TWO WEEKS IF I'LL START DRAWING CONTEST PRIZES.
Also I'm awarness of Dragonair overshadowing even Dragonite, but it's how I wanted to portait it in my favourite Pokemon list, so the image wasn't a first-and-in-a-second thought.
----------------------------------------------------------
Dragonite realistic.

An amphibian or reptile?
WHY NOT BOTH?

wHY. NOT. BOTH.

Is Archeopteryx THE ONLY transistional animal? Oh wait paleontologists lately discovered dinosaur which is 10 milion years older and had stolen noble title
of Archeopteryx. Dinosaur or bird? Do we have to headbutt evolution tree with will to sort EVERYTHING like a pendant?
Of course we need to sort everything to make classification clear, but through evolution there were for 100% sure animals which would be put between some inportant groups. I am always SO interested into THESE living forms, because it makes evolution not only more complete, but through studying evolution tree...it makes it going smooth.

Dinosaurs to birds? Finally people know it commonly.
Reptiles to mammals? Uhm, anyone's fan of adding fur/hair to reptile to tribute our ancestors? Yeah I know...we all love colorful feathers.
Fish to amphibians? But that's boring to everyone to hear fish haven't evolved limbs to move on land, but to move among dense flora in shallow water.
IT'S NONSENE TO PEOPLE 'CAUSE WE CONSIDER EVOLUTION TO THINK AND CREATE THINGS FOR REASON.
Still haven't got used to in-game or internet rule of random stuff? Yeah that's how it works
 :iconimhappyplz: Pardon I'm bizzare mixture of being smart AND silly.

An amphibian to reptiles. No one would ever get excited around crocodile-looking over 2 metres AMPHIBIAN living among giant spiders, dragonfies
and over 2 meter centipedes.
REALLY.
And Platyhystrix is SO bizzare amphibian in my opinion!
Next to dinosaurs and pterosaurs, prehistoric amphibians and tempting thought of when they exactly turned into reptiles stole my heart.
I always wondered over amphibians with reptile feathures already, especially origin of reptile scales or osteoderms. That's why I'm Swampert fangirl.
I only knew Cacops with armour scales on its back from few books and...I wished to be SURE it's not a fossil misenterpretation.
Even if through the time I've got this Pokemon is more of an Ichtyostega, but it's terrestrial like Cacops, so...I hope you can understand
my way of thinking here.

If you happen to know David Peters with pterosaur theories, you might know fossil misinterpretation can be HUGE problem if you wanna have good image
among others.

I THINK I FOUND MY BELOWED PREHISTORIC AMPHIBIANS I'VE BEEN LOOKIN' FOR: Chroniosaurs.

If I'm lucky that you, the one who's reading description now, is into paleontology and can say something, it would be nice to make
me sure I don't rely on something that's MAYBE real. If you're not into the topic, don't worry, might someday I'll find the clear answer :aww:

That's why, I think I'll stick my heart to Dragonite and Goodra even if they're cute european based dragons which is NOT my thing to be honest.
Not to mention, only Dragonair is my truly favourite Pokemon, because of its elegance and associating it with eastern dragon portaits it keeps pearl
in hand OR its eggs are pearls. On the other hand, I've never hated Dragonite for not being a Salamence or Hydreigon, because I understand it personally
as a try to mix eastern dragon view and admiration with commonly known eauropean dragon as it was something interesting in satoshi Tajiri's eyes.
Of course I can be TOTALLY wrong, but I just think in that way he wanted Dratini to change in the final stage and his eyes got caught by european dragon, so different from eastern one AND they're all focused on battles with their mighty power. He just kept it as a Pocked Monster you will have someday and it's dragon. A creature which in eastern culture is good for humans and they worship them, they're godly. Now you know why Dragonite is associated with water
- eastern dragons are gods and guardians of waters, they even summon rain. (dun dun dun, Sliggoo's evolving method comes to mind now here, especially after you watched anime)

HERE IT IS, A DRAGONITE OF MINE: A REPTILIOMORPH.
Reptiliomorphs are reptile-looking amphibians.

"I'm working on" Goodra's concept update which is still mysterious to me because of my personal concept for it.
I work on my poke-universe for relax, not for project or something like that.
Btw, what's up with Goodra so far? I consider in my Poke-universe some odd things to be true UNLIKE in real life.
Two heads, six limbs, chimera/hybrid cretures like Gliscor or Scyther etc. If Goodra is based on french folklore about monstrous snail, my Goodra will be like real snail then(at last outside- I SAY, IT'S INVERTEBRATE VERTEBRATE WOOOT! :lmao: ). Sorry for being stupid, it's just my way of going with Pokemon.

Now, if you're not one of those who are ready to scream "you ruined my childhood!"...can I say something I have for Goodra and will expand a bit in Kalos comic?
...
...think about a twist that Goodra was described for long, long ages as fearsome creature living in the worst places where swamp eats people alive and so the monster which lives in it...a noble knight will then defeat the monster surrounded by mist of mystery as nobody is enough brave to even come to its habitat...and then, like french clichue, they eat snail dragon...so nowadays, snails are like not that much for their taste, BUT TRADITION AND LEGENDS THEY HIDE.

Goodra actually got discovered as being docile and friendly, so...it was easy to hunt after you found one. Pokedex mentions its friendly nature because its rather disgusting AND horrible pest in gardens, while it doesn't has to be killed as will be aggressive.

Real animals inspirations:

-GOLDEN TOAD.
You might not believe amphibians can be fully orange, because we don't have any in modern times. Sadly, thanks to human, golden toad went to extinction. All right, it was thrivia.

-Diadectes. A bulky reptilomorph which was herbivore and one of the biggest land animals at its times. Because Dragonite's mouth front goes a bit down, I base it on Diadectes sammiguelensis

-Chroniosuchus paradoxus for the armou plates...which are on belly instead on the back here.

-my latest lessons on studies which reminded me about phenomenom of brain where we think there are super-stiffen separate parts for different roles, while the brain can adapt transforming part of itself into new role. Example? There was a man with cut out part responsible for memory, but after time through studies it was discovered it can learn and remember, even if not being awarness of it. People with sight disfunctions can see better thanks to special technology which transforms object into something their tongue can recognize. It sounds weird, but it only proves how little we know about non-machine, living organisms functioning AND adapting!

-Bee's known mechanics of flight. Even if they're said to not be able to fly X'D

-lungfish. When I saw its head...I've got nicely surprised how much it reminds me of mudpuppy's head!
...by the way...it's a LUNGfish.
The Chinese Dragon, or Lung. DETAILZ...

-pearl origin/forming. Do you know it's mainly made from... ARAGONITE? Dragon+ aragonite= Dragonite?

--IT'S SPAM TIME!--

Haahaahaa you know what I'm going to say...YOU KNOW...Swampert is Dragonite's cousin YEEAAAEEY :iconhurrplz:
Especially that my OC Marshall has hidden power dragon(headcanon of mine is, its connected to Pokemon's personality,
it's HIDDEN POWER afterall! How much I wish I've should be done with my HP headcanon explanation ehh  )
.

Marshall, now Jay or her Archie are going to call you as royal blood even more! XD For those who don't know, his father was a NidoKING
and grandma was a SlowKING. :iconimhappyplz: I honestly haven't noticed THAT before she told me.

I'm not sorry for such praise for that OC. Marshtomp is like Tiktaalik to me, TIKTAALIK ROSEAE...! :iconlawooplz:
and some earliest tetrapods fossiled footprints were found in Poland, my country. HA! So there can be something in Poland at all.

If we consider Marshtomp and Dragonair are related(even if not closely) Dragonair can controll weather...since Swampert can
sense incoming storm, Dragonair learned to understand
it while peaceful resting and some then learned to control it to survive even if there was strong sunlight and they travelled far away
from the water.

Wow! I love it! Never thought of it being a reptiliomorph. I always just called it a reptile.
