Description

WOOOOO HALLOWEEN IS COMIN', CAN YOU FEEL IT?
Did you heard that creak...you thought it was a floor...but it was a motherf***ing Trevenant now staring at you behind the window. :icondragoninsane:

Yes. Oui. Hai. TAK. Another WIP, but it's because I want to deal with latest comments, finish Meowstick drawing and after commissions start experimenting
how to draw it pretty fast as those leaves...will take hell long time as I can't use any brushes to "cheat" :/
I will finish this drawing for sure as it will be reference and exercise to deal with contest entry drawing.
Phew, a lot to do for just personal stuff while having real life to deal with too...

I WANT TO MARK IT WAS MY FIRST AND LOOSE TRY TO STUDY THOSE WEIRD BRISTLECONE PINE TREES, THEIR TWISTED BRANCHES AIN'T EASY TO DRAW
EVEN FOR SKILLED ARTIST LIKE ME, PLEASE HAVE IN MIND.
Merci.
Also, I wish I had more of free time today to even finish whole sketch...and tomorrow I wanna draw what I was suppossed to be. ^^;

Yes, bristlecone pine tree. Have you heard of them? you better check some info if you haven't!
Maybe they exist in North America not even in Europe on which Kalos is based(mainly France), but I can tell you, there IS connection between Kalos
and Unova probably. Reshiram and Zekrom statues...and if we consider he Pokemon World is an alternate universe with regions placed respectively like in reality...
Kalos and Unova are more likely to have any connection through the ocean than other regions. JUST A THEORY, I know I can be wrong.
- - -"SPAM" PART YOU CAN SKIP- - -

If you're one of my watchers, you might noticed my last journal with me wondering over Phantump a little...
Long story short, I was hunting for over half of the day(!!! might not non-stop play, but still) for shiny Phantump, but no luck.
(and later in no more than hour when I cam home and started horde waste of time I've got two shiny Magnemites in a horde. DUMB LUCK RULE)

I checked GTS and there it was, shiny Trevenant :iconrainbowdroolplz:
for Kyogre?
Deer GOD! YES YESS :iconbarryomgplz:
I just checked if got any shiny from WT and put on GTS asking for Kyogre. 30 min later I was playing
in Amie with relaxed shiny Trevenant!
I literally squealed inside when I saw its eye is violet *w* sooo beautiful.

I love shiny Trevenant for more than just spooky look and fav colors. I love it also because how I see it in my Pokemon universe!
Being rare on stardard encounter as they only visit forests where other Treverants live, but they can be found more often in thei mountains,
a place which looks same as bristlecone tree environment.

Pardon guys on my procrastination with Meowstic WIP and comissions, but I've got busy lately again
(no, not by sittng and playing like out of boredom tho), but I want to gather my ideas in mind and get it together.
- - -"SPAM" PART END- - -
If not shiny Trevenant, I might would not look for my first thought in mind closer;
When I was small girl, I immediately took attention on my family and their friends with my passion to prehistory and wildlife.
I've got a pretty basic, but full of nice thrivia book about the nature.

Yes, not only paleontology or biology was my cup of tea back then; nature phenomena was my interest too~
I still have one of images stuck in my mind....one of thge oldest trees in the World, being over 3000 years old for sure with truly spooky look
and twisted branches. I even looked back to this book, but unfortunately they haven't mentioned thheir name- might it would be too boring for a kid?
I dunno, but I searched for while and foud it!

the Great Basin bristlecone pine. They were pictured almost white and looking at the mountain environment
those trees grow in, I am just 100% it was another 1st thought idea that was the first and the best.

Some facts spam to let you dig into realistic Trevenant being this species of tree...or to be more exact, their dwarf forms.

Not only to keep in mind how suprisly small is Trevenant, but to follow my headcanon the bigger is possesed object,
the stronger spiritual being must exist in it. Yes, in my Pokemon universe there can be bigger than common Trevenant
having over 2 metres of height, but they're possesed by a spirit of druid for example, never a "normal" human.
No offence, it's just lack of english words here? ^^;

I would like to mention I consider all Pokedex entries to list the average size of Pokemon.
(but gourgeist is most likely an exception with mentioning it's maximum size...by the way)

Talking about oldest trees most of people think about redwood. I took look at them and...it's so nice they're related closer to pine trees
than to more modersn ones! Sigh, botany isn't my cup of tea -w-'
That's why I think it's not too far-fetched idea to give Trevenant redwood leaves. Maybe not exactly like them
with the branches shape, but hope you get the point- especially that shiny form is actually the one which got leaves of dawn redwood.

Some Trevenant of mine thrivia
(which I will eagerly show in my Kalos story comic, because I really want to focus
on some cool pictures in my mind :iconhurrhurrplz: )

-they lie their roots down when rest, sticking their middle into the ground to put small roots
used to detect ground vibrations, but since the ground in the forest is pretty soft and flora absorbs
most of vibrations, they adapted to communicate with plant Pokemon or recognize plants signals(mainly chemical
ones) to know what's going on around them without using their "eye". It can be compared to relying on hearing sense.

-their "body parts" which are separate and uplifted by spiritual being fit together like puzzle, so it's
hard to to distinguish Trevenant from normal tree, especially from further distance. They also save the spiritual
energy if not focus it inside. This probably gives it pretty high sp.def stat, which is suprisly higher
than its defence.

-Spiritual being possesing the death tree actually doesn't "live" inside, but it's fused together with the
outside body, even if not fully. Thanks to this the wood can bend, more or less, depending on the thickness
of it. The three big "bushes" on Trevenant are truthfully bended inside branches which unbend when it wants
to rest or absorb sunlight. The process of unbending is however too slow and not enough effective to perform
vine whip attack.

-do you know Phantump line cannot learn razor or magical leaf?
even by breeding or move tutor. Which means, I feel free to show their green parts of the body are not leaves
at all! Okay not leaves we commonly know, but needles. They're only mistaken for them from distance...
or first speciments ever seen close were subspecies
which actually have leaves ---SHRRUGG---

if you wanna ask "should it learn Needle Arm"?

My answer is no; this Pokemon is based on folklore mythical beings which are said to be general trees
and even if I know on what I based my Trevenant, I can say its leaves are more like redwood leaves.
Furthermore, very old bristlecone pines just barely have needles at all...they're at most parts totally
death. Half death, half alive...

-It can move its "eyebrow"...CREEEEPYYY

-it's "eye pupil" is the most concentrated spiritual energy which goes down when Trevenant rests,
so the eye hole looks like hollow in a tree...which often is resided by bird Pokemon!
It's even said in the Pokedex it's kind to Pokemon which reside inside. Why?
Pokemon live together, so it's obvious some learned to cooperate with another species.
Phantump and Trevenant are the only ones to learn move "Forest curse" which adds grass type to any Pokemon
that isn't part of grass type. sounds cool, but unlike Trick-ro-treat...a move that adds ghost type,
so can benefit user to hit with super-effective move, forest curse doesn't give any profits to user itself.
Unless you consider it's not for single battle between Trevenant only and its enemy.
Having bird Pokemon, so flying type on its side, it gives it huge advantage from having allies on its side.
It also works with poison type like Amoongus as mushrooms often grow under trees.

Knowing they're weak to flying or fire types they also often befriend Sudowoodo, which is rock type
and gives Trevenant advantage

-Looking at its moveset...and those claws...the move X-scissor seems just SCARY :stare:
Hope no one will get scratched by THAT tree!

-the middle part in the centre of Trevenant's "legs", being under the centre of its whole body...
is truthfully a dumped bunch of outside layers which can...open.
No one ever saw that, because Trevenant close them tightly to protect important part of its body,
it can be sure compared to its private area. It opens only for two reasons:

1) to let special roots outside in the ground to detect various signals and is commonly compared
to nervous system used to control trees. It can send and spread its powers into the ground to do so.
Mainly infrasounds of special kind to which trees responde

2)to give "a birth" to a Phantump.

YES, I have thought up even how it does happen, especially between two Trevenant...but I'll tell
only if someone is really into it. I'm not writing such thing in public this time hahaha :giggle:
(too lazy to put thoughts down into words AND english words uggh)

Extra thrivia!

In my stories there's one huge Trevenant being over 7 metres tall, but he can walk longer distances
or work without getting exhausted early only thanks to Xerneas fairy aura which strenghtens Floette's
and Florges powers which he, as part of plant, absorbs. He's bodyguard of Florges which is called as
Xerneas daughter. She is the only one besides Xerneas who can support this old Trevenant when he's needed.
When those two appear together, many think Florges is Trevenant's wife, because they're so close
and often synchronised. Some older Pokemon who know more about Xerneas background however call "Xerneas
daughter" being a spirit attached to that Trevenant to give her extended life, because she outlived
many Flabebe and Floette generations.
(yes the idea is inspired on Dryads, I am so uncreative -sarcasm-)

If you think he lives around route 20, you're wrong. I place Pokemon's sanctuary in another place,
far away from human's paths. I have listed somewhere between my headcanons list I call all in-game paths
as "safety paths". All those places where live Pokemon you cannot obtain in wild in-game such as starters
before X/Y are in true wild areas where people haven't builded paths to let some Pokemon have own
place in the World away from humanity.
we have Kadabras, Gothitelle and so on- many enough intelligent Pokemon to sure think a bit about the whole
Pokemon World same as we can.
