Nature notes on Excadrill that I have learnt.
Drilbur and excadrill have the same size eyes, I think... the actual eyes don't get bigger or smaller when it evolves, although the shape/size of the pupil changes a bit. Most Drilbur stay underground or forage at night. If you see a dribur above ground, either something is wrong, or it wants to develop and become an excadrill. Both mole types have excellent smell and good night vision.
Excadrill usually evolve to overcome an obstacle of some sort or lead a tribe of Drilbur, or are the competitive type... ..a few though are just THAT curious about the surface world and like to explore!
The steel claws are not weapons first, but tools first; they're not carnivores but omnivores. Their preferred food is found underground, including larvae, worms, fungi and mushrooms, fruits and various sorts of root and tuber. Some roots and bark have medicinal value and the Excadrill know what to use to cure a headache or stomach ache.
They don't like water, but can also fish for food. Drilbur and Excadrill can swim and dive, but an Excadrill cannot float. So it must swim constantly or it will sink.
You can make friends with an excadrill, but a little time, respect and patience are needed. Trust will last a lifetime, but if you disappoint them severely, it can take a long time to rebuild the trust.
Brushing isn't really required, but replaces the effect the soil has when drilling or digging if the Excadrill is kept by a trainer. It's an excellent way to make friendships stronger, too. Hoof oil is good on the red bits to make them look nicest. Jeweler's metal polish is best for cleaning the organic steel - other types will hurt your skin (and probably the excadrills' as well). They do appreciate the attention.
In the wild, the act of digging keeps the metal shiny, and provides other benefits.
Once befriended, an Excadrill will not accidentally stab you. They can smell you well-before they encounter you, so they know you are there. A happy Excadrill is the cuddliest creature in the world!
Hand feeding is not necessary, but does build strong friendship.
One test to see if an Excadrill trusts you is to try and get your hand on the brown fur under the steel head armour. If you can - don't forget to give him a nice scratch! - then you know that you're accepted.

How do your findings compare..?
